Military doctor, Jeopardy winner donates haul to charity

Contestants on the venerable game show Jeopardy often come home with big pay days, and while many choose to use the money on themselves, that's not the case for one recent winner. Capt. Brendan Graham won three games and took home more than $47,000, but donated half of it to a trio of charities, Army News Service reports.
Graham, who is a pathologist at San Antonio Military Medical Center, selected a number of organizations close to his heart including the Wounded Warrior Project, the Fisher House and the Archdiocese for the Military Service - San Antonio. Given his profession, Graham knows firsthand the struggles that injured soldiers go through upon returning home.
"I saw these organizations almost every day. When a patient arrives at the hospital, a representative from the Wounded Warrior Project is always there to assist the patient and their well-being," Graham told the news source.
Graham's donations could go a long way in helping the many injured soldiers from the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. According to the Los Angeles Times, the official number of wounded soldiers from the two wars is more than 38,000.
