Servicemembers root for the home team while abroad

2/6/2012

While serving overseas, military members often miss big events going on at home. However, this year's Super Bowl was enjoyed by many members of the armed forces, including two Giants fans stationed in Schweinfurt, Germany, according to ESPNNewYork.com

Captain Ed Mallue Jr., from Brick, New Jersey, was one servicemember rooting for the Giants from his apartment in Schweinfurt. He managed to host a get-together for a group of friends, complete with all of the fixings that make Super Bowl parties what they are. Mallue and his friends didn't let the time difference bother them.

"I'm pretty much the biggest Giants fan of my group here and we do have a Patriots fan here and she really was quite disappointed," he told the news source. "...Overall we just had a great time watching the game, even though it's 4:15 a.m. over here."

Mallue and his friends had a good reason to celebrate - the Giants beat the Patriots 21 to 17. This was a big win for the New York team, as it solidified their often-contested win against the Patriots in the 2008 Super Bowl.
