Soldier vows to complete 1 million push ups for charity

2/9/2012

Most New Year's resolutions fizzle out after a month or two, but Sgt. Enrique Trevino has a much greater incentive to complete his goal. Trevino committed to completing 1 million push ups throughout 2012 to raise money for the Wounded Warrior Project, Military Times reports.

The figures are pretty staggering. In order to reach the 1 million mark, Trevino has to average 2,732 push ups a day. So far, he's managed to stay on target and has completed well over 100,000 since he started on January 1. Regardless of whether or not he is successful, Trevino simply hopes to raise awareness (and $10,000) for the struggle of injured veterans.

"I'm trying to put awareness out there so we can start giving back to those who gave so much and lost so much," Trevino told the publication.

Trevino's efforts are just one of the latest ways that soldiers and civilians alike are honoring servicemembers who have been hurt in the line of duty. Most recently, former NFL star Jim McMahon hosted a Super Bowl party for wounded warriors, which raised money for injured vets.
