I am sure that many of our members have been watching the news on the various proposals for increasing life insurance benefits for the active duty military. As of press time, the jury is still out on the final levels of coverage. I want you to know that AFBA fully supports increased benefits for the military. AFBA was formed for the purpose of promoting the general welfare and economic interests of its members and their families.

  • If and when those proposals come into law, you will benefit from those increases in coverage while you are on active duty.

  • When you retire or separate, your SGLI benefits will stop. As you transition to a new career, you will hopefully receive life insurance coverage from your new employer, but most likely, this coverage will be at a significantly reduced level from SGLI. This new employment coverage will depend on your continued employment.

  • In order to provide your family with adequate financial benefits over the long term, we highly recommend that you consider "arming" yourself with a reasonable level of inexpensive term insurance through AFBA.

  • AFBA offers an Emergency Death Benefit of up to $15,000 paid to the insured member's beneficiary within 24 hours after receiving notice of a member's death.

  • AFBA's Select Term life insurance is fully "portable", which means that once you have this insurance it stays with you, whether you are employed or not. Our goal is to provide benefits that make a difference to preserve the welfare of your family.
