Studies have shown that veterans who suffer from PTSD can relieve their symptoms by pairing with an animal companion.

In Michigan, one group makes the relationship between veterans and pets beneficial for both sides of the equation.

A volunteer organization called Friends of the Animals for the Jackson Area recently started the Pets for Veterans campaign. This allows vets to adopt one dog or one or two cats, free of charge.

The group is also taking donations from others to help cover the cost of those adoptions, collecting about $1,800.

Previous efforts have placed 49 dogs and 28 cats into veterans’ homes, and they hope that number continues to grow.

This is just another example of how people can help veterans with relative ease in their everyday lives. Thanks for watching.
