When people go to places like the local coffee shop, they may connect to Wi-Fi for a few minutes to check email or get some work done.

However, security experts say this isn’t always a good idea.

That’s because those connections aren’t well-protected in a lot of cases. If a regular person can connect to them, so too can hackers.

As a result, people should only rely on these connections when absolutely necessary, and be careful about their browsing habits when they do.

Experts caution you should only use internet-enabled apps and programs that encrypt all data, and never send sensitive information over public connections.

That includes personally identifying information, financial data, and so on.
