Greetings. As a member of a military family, you know that the initial stages of a loved one’s deployment can be extremely challenging. To ease the transition, it’s a good idea to plan bonding activities for the weeks leading up to a soldier’s departure.

Because deployment brings up a lot of emotions and concerns for everyone involved, consider scheduling a family meeting where you can go over the many details involved in the process.

If you have older children, ask them to brainstorm questions they may have. For younger kids, use the gathering as an opportunity to explain that their loved one has to leave for a while in order to help people.

Try having this discussion at a favorite family restaurant, or schedule fun plans for when the talk is over. This can help soften the mood and take stress away from children who may have concerns.

Thanks for watching!
