Welcome back! In part 1 of this series, we discussed the importance of making rookies feel welcome in your unit and station house. We suggested that you reach out to become a mentor and remain patient, as the newcomers may have a lot of questions. Here are a few more tips for making rookies feel like part of the work family.

A rookie will learn from your example. Whatever type of person you are looking to work with, that’s the type of example you need to set.

Additionally, you should support the newcomers. They may be hard on themselves when they make a mistake. Let them know that you were once in their shoes and help them move past it.
