Greetings!

As many servicemembers entering the civilian workforce already know, getting non-veterans to understand your skills and experiences can be difficult.

We’re here to help make it a little easier.

In part one of three, we’ll go over some basic civilian equivalents of military positions that will help you on your job hunt.

For example, a watch captain is a supervisor or manager.

An executive officer is a deputy director or assistant manager.

Your commander was your director or division head, and your fellow servicemembers were co-workers or colleagues.

These civilian translations might seem strange at first, but it’s important to remember that if a civilian employer is going to understand your worth, they’re going to have to understand it on their own terms.

You are a skilled, highly talented individual that would be an asset to any company – now you’ve just got to communicate it.

Thank you for joining us.

We hope you’ll check back for parts 2 and 3 of this video series.
