Family Survivor College Scholarship

As a unique member benefit, AFBA is proud to offer families of eligible fallen members the Charles C. Blanton AFBA Family Survivor College Scholarship. Surviving spouse and children are eligible for $10,000 per year, up to a total maximum benefit for the entire family of $40,000 toward an undergraduate degree, license or certification.
Not available in New York. In Virginia, only available to First Responders.

Who is eligible to enroll for coverage?

All current and former federal employees and contractors, government groups, and spouses between the ages of 18-75 are eligible to enroll with coverage continuing through age 121.

What are available coverage amounts?

Choose the level of coverage that best suits your needs – ages 18-44 $25,000 to $50,000,and ages 45-75 up to $30,000 in $5,000 increments. Rates are based on your current age when you purchase coverage.

Do I need a medical exam?

With our simplified enrollment form, applying for coverage is easy. There is no medical exam. Just answer a few health questions and sign. Coverage amounts are dependent upon the answers to the Statement of Health (SOH) questions.

What happens when I retire or separate?

As long as contributions are paid, there are no occupation restrictions, so regardless of what you do after separation or any health issues that develop in the future, you’re covered.

Can I enroll if I smoke?

Yes. Rates are the same for men and women regardless of tobacco/nicotine use and based on your current age when
you purchase coverage. Rates remain level as long as you have the coverage and maintain contribution payments.

How does spouse coverage work?

Secure the same great benefits for your spouse. With our simplified enrollment form, applying for coverage is easy with no medical exam, simply have your spouse answer the SOH questions and sign. Coverage amounts are dependent upon the answers to the SOH questions.
