When dangerous earthquakes strike, members of every public safety department team up to protect the populace. Large-scale training exercises ensure teamwork between the National Guard and first responders will be seamless if and when it’s needed.

Guardsmen from across state lines, police officers, firefighters and EMTs can improve their coordination by uniting for realistic disaster scenarios that put their training and communication to the test.

The process of recovering from a disaster is complex, and everything from search and rescue to restoration of essential services is worth practicing.

Different states have their own training exercises based on the types of disasters likely in those particular regions, but the general concept is always the same. If different emergency public safety departments and the National Guard train together, they’ll be ready to save lives in the event of an actual crisis.
