One of the big problems many veterans face nationwide is under-employment and joblessness. Fortunately, more cities are trying to tackle this concern head-on.
For instance, the city of Salem, Virginia, recently held its fifth annual Veterans-Only Regional Job Fair to help get former servicemembers into the workforce.
In all, 20 companies sent representatives to speak with veterans about career opportunities, and they offered other useful resources.
These types of events are usually well-attended by both veterans and businesses, and local leaders often talk about the positive impact they have on the community.
When more is done to support former servicemembers, the community benefits as well.
